Shrimp pond
Intensive commercial shrimp farming began in the late 1960S led in part by technological advances and growing market demand. Today, Shrimp farming is so intensive(in some case close to 300000 shrimp per hectare) that it requires industrially prepared shrimp feeds, fertilizing the pings to stimulate the growth of organisms, aeration to prevent oxygen depletion and regular tidal water exchange. HDPE geomembranes have been used in some of the largest shrimp pond projects in the world. There are several key benefits of lining shrimp ponds with geomembranes. Durable and robust, the HDPE surface prevents weeds, grasses, mud and other obstructive contaminants from entering the pond. The HDPE substrate is known to reduce the suitability of the environment for bacteria thereby reducing the need for antibiotics. Geomembranes can also protect the slopes and banks from erosion and allow for easy detection and repid removal of sediment and waste products.
